CASUALTY – Tanker HEPHAESTUS aground at Malta – 10.02.2018.

The 1965 built bunkering tanker HEPHAESTUS ran aground at Qawra Point, Malta on Saturday 10th February, 2018 early morning during a strong Northerly Wind Force 7 after she dragged anchor from Bunkering Area 1 with 7 crew members. Malta Red Cross dispatched 4 vehicles including ambulances and provided assistance and clothes to the crew members of which no injuries were reported.

She was built in Broderna Jonssons Torrdocka at Lidkoping in Sweden as EKEN until 1973 where she was renamed as MANDOUDHI homeported in Chalkis, Greece of which last year she was renamed HEPHAESTUS homeported at Lome Togo.

Unfortunately lately the crew was transmitting on VHF that they have a lack of food and water.

And in better times anchored offshore Malta back to 13th October, 2017 –
