Container ship detained for possible Sudan arms embargo violation.
Greek Coast Guard intercepted the container ship MEKONG SPIRIT at the Aegean Sea , and took her to Kefalos Bay, Kos island, where she was anchored in the afternoon of May 24th 2017. Vessel is suspected in violating international arms embargo on Sudan. MEKONG SPIRIT left Aliaga Turkey on May 23rd bound for Sudan via Suez, AIS showing Port Said as next port of call. After several hours stay, vessel heaved anchor and as of 0300 UTC May 25 th was heading for Souda, Crete, for a thorough investigation.
