On Tuesday 27th October, 2020 a huge fire blaze broke out at the Wasteserv plant in Marsa with Civil Protection Department (CPD) issuing a warning to residents in the area, telling them to keep windows closed since the fumes were considered as toxic.

The fire which started around 0730 hrs at a yard where autoclave material was stored. All workers at the plant were accounted for and no injuries were reported. A medical team was also on site, as well as police who cordoned off the area. Wasteserv had an incinerator plant that burns animal waste. Since the plant is back to back with MMH Facilities all vessels berthed at the quay were shifted to other berths – Anti Piracy Vessels BASTION 2 and BASTION 3, tugboat GAGLIARDO and High Speed Craft MARIA DOLORES.

The 2016 built tug CTOW BIEKE that was berthed to the quay started fire fighting until the Civil Protection Tug SEA SALVOR arrived at the scene since fireboat GARIBALDI is drydocked.

Fire was brought under control after 2 hours.
