One of the first Polar Class (PC) 3 Vessel Heavy Load Carrier AUDAX was photographed from the air by Malta Ship Photos in the Mediterranean Sea during her first cargo voyage.
She was built in 2016 by Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd at Guangzhou, China with Hull Number as 14664001 with keel laid on 12th February 2015, launched 15th September 2015 and delivered on 19th January, 2016.
The 206.3 metres long (loa) with 43 metres beam vessel, capable of breaking up to 1.5-metre (5 ft) ice independently, were built for year-round transportation of LNG liquefaction plant modules to Sabetta Peninsula in Northern Siberia, Russia despite severe weather conditions.
Her cargo were modules for the Novatek-led Yamal LNG project of which the vessel is capable of operating above the Arctic Circle year round in temperatures as low as -40°C, and can travel through 1.5 metre thick ice at a speed of 4 knots.
