After the disembarking of immigrants at Delimara Power Station in the evening of Sunday 8th September (Public Holiday at Malta) it was the door for a busy week for Rescue Operations by irresponsible souls.

On Tuesday 10th September, five divers were rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and the Civil Protection Department (CPD) after finding themselves in difficulty off Wied iż-Żurrieq.

2 divers were rescued by helicopter and 3 were taken ashore by a CPD dinghy. One diver was taken to Mater Dei Hospital. No one was injured. In a joint statement, AFM and CPD said Malta Red Cross (MRC) volunteers alerted them that the five divers were in difficulty after they were dragged out to sea by strong currents and large waves.

The rescue operation wasn’t an easy one due to the strong currents and Force 6 winds.

Despite double red flags , divers were spotted going down …..

2 days later on Thursday 12th September around 2300hrs the Malta Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received a distress call via the 112 emergency number of which they launched a coordinated rescue operation, involving maritime assets from the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), the Malta Police, and the Civil Protection Department (CPD) for 2 swimmers trapped at Ta Maria Caves below Rdum l-Mdawwar.

Rescuers managed to reach the trapped souls ,bringing them safely back to shore and were handed over to medical personnel from Mater Dei Hospital (MDH) for further assistance, though they appeared to be in good health.

And again 2 days later on Saturday 14th September – the CPD Control Room received a report of a swimmer in distress at Baħar ic-Cagħaq and Rescue teams, including the RHIB Delta 2 from Fire Station 5 and personnel from Fire Station 11 were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The female casualty that decided to jump and swim with WNW strong wind blowing 45 km/h equivalent to Force 6 with maximum of 4 metres height was brought to shore safely and transferred to the Mater Dei Hospital (MDH) Emergency Response Team.

And in my opinion Irresponsible Souls are to be fined and pay for the rescue operation. Endangering other souls is a crime so it’s about time that WE HAVE to take care of all the RESCUE PERSONNEL too.

As I always say – Common Sense is not a flower that grows in everyone’s garden !!!!
