One of the vessels involved in BFT (BlueFin Tuna) Season 2007 was the 1975 built offshore supply vessel STORM X.
She was built at American Marine Corp of New Orleans, USA as yard no 1120 delivered in May 1975 as CANARY ISLAND trading until 1991 where she was bought by Vector Offshore and renamed VEESEA HURRICANE working for 10 years. Bought by Gem Shipping, Tonga from 2001 to 2003 as SEA 1. From 2003 to 2005 as TORRE with Wish Shipping of Comoros and from 2005 to 2006 as ATORRE with Cedar Lakes SA of Panama. Renamed STORM X trading for 3 years trading from 2006 to 2009 with Mirtali Shipping Ltd, Greece.
She was involved with local Mare Blu Tuna Farm Ltd supporting tuna cages.
On Friday 25th May 2007 while she was entering Valletta she suffered an engine room explosion and was assisted by TugMalta tugboat WENZINA to proceed to her berth.
She’s still trading today though 45 years old in the Middle East as ELITE ENERGY (Since 2016) –
