On Tuesday 4th May, 2019 the Maltese tugboat SPINOLA towed the 1964 built asphalt/bitumen tanker JAGUAR from OPL Malta towards Grand Harbour.
Late afternoon she was joined by another tugboat , the SEA SALVOR and entered Valletta.
She berthed starboard side alongside at Shipwrights Wharf at Bezzina Ship Repair Yard. She was built in 1964 at Nobiskrug Yard in Germany as SPIEKEROOG (1964-1972) for C.W. Hansen Tankschiffahrt, Hamburg, DEU; SPIEKEROOG (1972-1972) for Deutsche-Nordische Schiffs GmbH, Hamburg, DEU; BITUMENJO (1972-1976) for Imperatur Enterprises Inc., Mogadishu,SOM; BITUMENJO (1976-1978) for Imperatur Enterprises Inc., Singapore,SGP; IONION (1978-1983) for Ionian Tankershipping SA., Piraeus, GRC; IONION (1983-2006) for Ionion Co. of Maritime, Piraeus,GRC; VASSILIKI (2006-2012) for Prevere NE, Piraeus, GRC; HELEXION I (2012-2014) and GALAXY C (2014-2017).
In 2014 she was detained in Eleusis , Greece and in 2017 she was detained for 16 days.
Homeported in Lome, Togo she reflagged to Tanzania and her name shorted as JAG. She was sold for demolition in Turkey by Bereket Gemi Söküm, a yard that has not applied to be included in the list of EU approved facilities.
On Saturday 6th July she was towed out by tugboat SEA SALVOR handing her over to the awaiting tug BALABAN who was towing another decommissioned vessel.
Once operation was completed towage started their last voyage bound to the breakers.
