Last Friday 7th June the 250.24 m long (loa) Maritime Prepositioning Ship (PREPO) USNS PFC EUGENE A. OBREGON T-AK 3006 arrived at the recycling yard All Star Metals & All Star Shredding at Brownsville, Texas, United States of America (USA).
She was built in 1982 at the Sun Shipbuilding, Chester, Pennsylvania as THOMAS HEYWARD for Waterman Steamship Corp. 3 years later she was acquired and chartered by the Navy under a long-term contract as SS PFC EUGENE A.OBREGON AK-3006 of which conversion was done at the National Steel and Shipbuilding, San Diego.
The above 2 images goes back to March 2005, when it was the first time that she was Within Territorial Waters (wtw).
During January 2010, she was assigned to the Maritime Prepositioning Ship (PREPO) Squadron 1, based in the Atlantic Ocean. Q3 of 2010 she moved to the Mediterranean Sea Operation Area.
She was later transferred to the Military Sealift Command Surge Sealift as USNS PFC EUGENE A.OBREGON T-AK 3006 from 1st October 2012.
On Tuesday 21st March 2023, PFC EUGENE A.OBREGON with the remaining two ships in the class, was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register.
