One of the famous Jumbo heavy load carriers that used to call at Malta was the 1995 built Heavy Load Carrier JUMBO SPIRIT.
She was built by Bolnes Shipyard BV Capella /d Ijssel in Netherlands as JUMBO SPIRIT for Jumbo Spirit BV ( Kahn Scheepvaart BV Rotterdam as manager ) Rotterdam ,Netherlands with 95.69 m length (loa).
On the 26th of April, 2012 she completed her sailing round the world transporting a mobile harbor crane and refinery equipment, the company press release said.
The voyage started in Australia, then to New Zealand, Chile, the Bahamas, and finished in Long Harbor, Canada. A tight and challenging stowplan was developed for the JUMBO SPIRIT in order to store the cargo safely on the vessel. After discharging her last cargo of a previous voyage in Port Louis, Mauritius, the HLV sailed to Brisbane, Australia, to load 2 autoclaves and associated equipment. In the next loading port Bluff, New Zealand, a 360 tons Liebherr crane was loaded on deck. This crane needed to be shifted on deck in the port of San Antonio, Chile to open up the vessels hatch and load the remaining cargo in to the hold. After completion the mobile harbor crane was repositioned according the original stowage plan.
And after 20 years she was removed from the Jumbo Ships Fleet and was beached at Aliaga, Turkey to be broken up after she arrived in Aliaga Roads on 28th April, 2015 and was beached the day after.
