One of the famous Dutch built ocean going salvage tug SALVAGE TITAN was broken up at Kaohsiung, Taiwan last December 2022.

She was built by Verolme Shipyard – Heusen; Netherlands with yard number 934 for Smit International Rotterdam as SMIT NEW YORK. Below image is while she was berthed at the old Medserv Base at Manoel Island, Malta back to January 1993.

In 1998 she was merged in the new joint venture between Smit and Wijsmuller and renamed SMITWIJS NEW YORK.


.At Valletta, Malta still named as SMIT NEW YORK.
In 2000 she was sold to China Ocean Engineering Services – Shanghai (COESS) and managed by Shanghai Salvage Co. and renamed HUA AN homeported at Kingstown with VCT flag.
And in 2015 she was sold again to her last owner – Asian Marine Co of Taiwan and renamed SALVAGE TITAN. She hit the headlines when on Monday 28th November 2016 morning while towing a barge with 3 gantry cranes and an RTG crane grounded at Barangay Marzan in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, Philippines with 14 Filipino Crew members onboard. Due to strong weather conditions, she drifted in the sea off Sanchez Mira and eventually ran aground off the coast of Sitio Calingkingan in Brgy. Barzan, Sanchez Mira. The tug was manned by Capt. Christopher Guebalangen; six of his crew members received medical assistance after they were rescued by the Philippine Coastguard. No Pollution was reported.
