One of the Norwegian built ships , was the semi-submersible heavy load carrier TERN who throughout her 35 year long career, she transported a large variety of heavy loads.
She was built at Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted at Tonsberg in Norway as DYVI TERN trading until January 1988.
In 1988 she was renamed to TERN H.I. until April 1989 and sold to Dockwise of which she was renamed SEA TERN until January 1996 and finally TERN until February 2017 .
With her 5 ballast pumps with a 1000 and 500 m3/hr capacity she was able to lower her well deck below the water’s surface and load offshore rigs, vessels or barges and many other bulky loads.
Her last voyage loaded was with SMIT ORCA and TAKLIFT 6 of which all 3 vessels went to breakers in Turkey with the convoy finally leaving Rotterdam Europoort bound to Simsekler Shipbreaking Yard
All images goes back to Monday 29th June 2015 underway in the Mediterranean Sea loaded with 2 dredgers – STEPAN DEMESHEV a 1988 built Russian Bucket Ladder Dredger and the Belgian 1970 built Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (THSD) VLAANDEREN XVIII being shipped to their new owner Mercator Lines, India.
