The second time that sand was imported from Aqaba, Jordan took place this month of June 2024.
This time it was brought over by the Japanese built ship GREENWAY homeported at Panama (PAN Flag) of which she entered Grand Harbour on Tuesday 11th June at 2336 hrs.
She was built in 2000 by Watanabe Shipbuilding for the Taiwanese Shipping Company Wisdom Line as FRATERNITY WISDOM and was renamed to her current name since December, 2022.
The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) advised the general public that as part of its beach maintenance programme, sand recharges were going to be executed in Buġibba Perched Beach, St Paul’s Bay as well as St. George’s Bay, St. Julian’s.
Sand was being discharged both as bulk and in jumbo bags via derrick/ship cranes.
The first time Sand was important from Jordan, it goes back to 20 years ago with ship , was berthed at Laboratory Wharf inner and was bought from Al Jashia Quarry in Aqaba, Jordan
GREENWAY left Valletta passing breakwaters on Monday 17th June at 204 hrs bound to Istanbul, Turkey.
