An onboard fire is one of the most feared events in the annals of the sea. Two marine craft were involved within territorial waters (wtw) of Malta, 2 days apart from each other.
First one occurred on Wednesday 14th August around 2020 hrs when a 9ft rubber dinghy caught fire with 2 persons onboard that were rescued by the Turkish Gulet FERNANDES II while she was on her night charter cruise near St. Paul’s Bay.

And the second one happened yesterday Friday 16th August around 2230 hrs when the 33ft yacht DREAM WORLD was anchored at Mellieha Bay, or Għadira, as the locals know it caught fire with no souls aboard.
Emergency services were promptly notified, and the Civil Protection Department arrived on the scene with both fireboat MANUCCA that left Grand Harbour around 2243 hrs and rescue rib DELTA II.
Few minutes before midnight the fireboat MANUCCA was seen leaving the area and later on the pleasure yacht sank.
