The 2008 built yacht ATINA sank after a fire broke out aboard in the evening of Saturday 10th August while she was anchored in the Gulf of Olbia in Sardinia, Italy.

Dramatic footage released by the Olbia Coast Guard showed the flames spread from the aft portion of the vessel until ATINA was entirely engulfed with flames. The 16 Turkish souls that were aboard, were all safe on the tender of the vessel with 8 of them had abandoned the 47 metre yacht before the outbreak of the fire, which started in the engine room.

The Spanish built tugboat MASCALZONE SCATENATO arrived to the area with extinguishing operations through her fire monitors, while the Coast Guard (Guardia Costiera) Patrol boat CP2116 kept the area clear;  with Vigili Del Fuoco arriving too.

CP 2116 is the same class as CP 2094, here at La Spezia, Italy

The operations were coordinated by the Maritime Directorate of Olbia.

Once the fire was extinguished, ATINA rested on a seabed that is between 5 and 8 meters deep with Guardia Costiera  installing anti-pollution booms and a beacon  has been installed for navigation safety.

ATINA was built at Heesen Yacht Builders in Netherlands as ELANDESS in 2008 with Hull no 14047 with Steel Hull and Aluminium Superstructure.
