On Sunday 8th October, 2023  the 2005 built 21 metre Turkuaz 24 Turkish Gulet TURKUAZ caught fire in Lampedusa. The flames engulfed the wooden boat while she was sailing around the island on the north coast.

Under the coordination of the Coast Guard Operations Room, the vessel CP 941 UBALDO DICIOTTI with 3 other patrol craft CP319, CP2105 and CP324 were immediately dispatched to the rescue area , the latter with two firefighters on board.

 

At the time of the fire, there were 30 passengers and 2 crew members on board the  local tourist boat. After rescued, all souls, almost all of them tourists were escorted by a Guardia di Finanza marine unit to the port

Shortly afterwards the fire was put out, the gulet TURKUAZ  sank.
