The general cargo ship CDRY BLUE that ran aground on the rocks at Sant’Antioco, on the south west coast of Sardinia, Italy last 21st December 2018 will be cut in sections and removed from her current place.
After her Italian owner declared and obtained from the insurer (Siat) the total construction loss of the ship, Resolve Marine Group – a US company specialised in ship recovery,salvage, fire emergency etc has won the contract for the removal which will begin soon. The removed sections will be taken to the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard in Genoa, the only one in Italy certified for the green disposal of ships. In fact the tug RESOLVE HERCULES engaged in towing arrived on Saturday 27th June, 2020.
The removal operation will take around 2 months and to safeguard the environment during the works, they will use an acetylene flame to cut the various sections. Alongside CDRY BLUE , a 70 m x 20 m crane barge will be placed with another ship to load the removal sections.
