It seems there was a stern thruster failure with both ships sustained damages with ANTONELLO DA MESSINA nose damaged while RAFFALE RUBATTINO had stern ramp and starboard side quarter damages.

RAFFALE RUBATTINO was built at La Spezia, Italy by Cantiere Navali Baglietto in 2000 homeported at Napoli, Italy (ITA Flag) for Tirrenia-CIN (Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione) and she’s 181 metres long. She can carry 1,471 passengers with 35 crew. Car capacity is 630 cars. She has 10 decks including 2 deck cabins (293), 195 seats and 998 beds

ANTONIO DA MESSINA was built at Marina di Carrara, Italy by Nuovi Cantieri Apuania ApA in 1988 as yard number 1140 homeported at Palermo, Sicily (ITA Flag) for SI.RE.MAR (Sicilia Regionale Marittima SpA). She’s 71.5 metres long with 1,643 GRT and 582 DWT.

Both ferries images are at Palermo Port, back to October 2014.

At the time of writing – RAFFAELE RUBATTINO is at Naples, Italy (Arrived today at 0413 UTC) leaving Palermo, Sicily yesterday at 1847 UTC and ANTONELLO DA MESSINA is still berthed at Palermo Port though she’s berthed at Molo Nord.
