Although the weather conditions were still improving, the salvage team decided to start towing EEMSLIFT HENDRIKA during the salvage operation on Thursday 8th March, 2021. According to the Emergency Response Director of the Norwegian Coastal Administration Hans-Petter Mortensholm stated that control of the vessel is secured by starting towing her to the northeast, offshore Fosnavag, Western Norway.
In the evening of Wednesday 7th March the 4 personnel of Smit Salvage Team approached from a helicopter to secure the ship which drifted directly towards Stadlandet, Western Norway, at a speed of 1.5 knots. Then action was launched due to fears that the vessel would drift ashore during the night. The wave height was between three and four metres, which was demanding and not optimal. When the vessel was secured, there were four to five hours left until the ship would aground.
Onboard the ship there are 305 m³ of crude oil, 70 m³ diesel and 10 m³ of lubricating oil.
She will now be towed to Breisundet, close to the town Ålesund and the salvage team of 4 are still on board.
