The 1997 built ro/ro cargo ship EUROCARGO TRIESTE suffered fire in engine room shortly after she left Livorno, Italy around 0130 UTC on Thursday November 21st.

According to reports the engine room was sealed and fire fighting flooding system was activated. At the time of the incident the ship was around 4 nautical miles off Livorno of which tugs took her back to the port and later she was moved out and brought closer to the shore outside port, with firefighting teams fighting fire and cooling hull.

Tugs FRATELLI NERI; TITO NERI and TOSCANA were dispatched to aid the distressed vessel. The tugs took the fire stricken vessel in tow and proceeded to cool down the ship’s bulkheads through the use of fire fighting monitors.

Also Guardia Costiera CP 825 Class – CP 867 was dispatched together with Vigili Del Fuoco Fireboat VF R09 alongside a number of ambulances from Livorno.

No ships were allowed in and out of the port, as the emergency teams worked on the vessel with thankfully all 25 crew were reported safe with no injuries. Ship was carrying around 200 vehicles. The fire was successfully extinguished in the afternoon, one engine was on fire, later fire spread to generator. According to latest news, the ship was cleared to enter Livorno, and reportedly, as of 1700 UTC she was already berthed, though AIS is still off.
