On Saturday 28th August, 2021 early morning the 1985 built general cargo ship SEA BIRD homeported at Lome (TGO Flag) sank in Cretan Sea east of Greek peninsula after she ran aground. She was underway from Ukraine to Tunisia with 7,000 tons of wheat on board. Large scale SAR was launched, with all 16 Syrian crew rescued and safe.

She was built in Turkey by Kok Tersanecilik in Istanbul as AYDER with yard no 2 in January 1985 trading until July 1993 where she was sold and renamed as NECDET K trading for nearly 20 years until April 2013 where she was sold and renamed SEA BIRD since.

Back to January, 2015 she went aground again in pure weather conditions of which she drifted ashore east of Antalya, Turkey with 14 Syrian Crew.
