On Thursday 25th November at 0625 hrs the 2005 built Italian flag and owned chemical/oil products tanker FILICUDI M left Sarroch, Sardegna, Italy bound to Augusta, Italy. On the night of Friday 26th November the Italian Coast Guard (Guardia Costiera) of Mazara Del Vallo was engaged in rescue operation after an Engine Room Fire which had caused the failure of the propulsion system and a medical evacuation (medevac) of an injured crew member approximately 16 miles south of the Mazara coast.
In consideration of the adverse weather and sea conditions, the operations room of the Maritime Directorate of Palermo had the intervention of the latest 20 metres aluminium Rescue Craft CP 330 based at Trapani Port, on which 118 medical personnel were embarked. Guardia Costiera reached the ship around 0530hrs and disembarked the injured crew member, and then headed towards the port of Mazara del Vallo for the transfer to the local hospital.
The Officer in command aboard after having tamed the flames, through the use of the CO2 fire extinguishing system, was forced to request the intervention of a tugboat to continue navigation in the direction of the port of Augusta, where the usual checks will be carried out. by the Technical Body and the consequent repair work. In fact 2 tugs were sent – 2020 built 25metres tug GORDO from Gela
And the 1992 built 31metres tug PAUL from Trapani both with fire monitors –
On Sunday 28th November FILICUDI M was spotted completing her voyage escorted by both tugs GORDO and PAUL.
She was last seen in Malta at Palumbo Malta Shipyards last October as per below images –
In the morning of Monday 29th November the convoy arrived off Augusta, Sicily –
And at 1744 hrs the 2007 built tug CAPO MOLINI starting assisting the tanker to enter Augusta Port, Sicily –
