On New Year’s Day – Saturday 1st January 2022 at 1943 hrs the Turkish fishing vessel WHITE ANGEL requested assistance (rudder problem) to Valletta VTS being the second vessel that had asked for assistance. Vessel was on transit to Morocco and unfortunately there was a language barrier since the radio officer claimed that he don’t understand Simple English.

He stated that they were close to Marsaxlokk Port with 5 Turkish crew members and need to go alongside a berth to fix the problem.

After several attempts from Valletta VTS at 2010 hrs fishing vessel radio officer replied of which VTS asked for WHITE ANGEL position in order to drop anchors since she had no AIS signal and when asked for IMO Number the radio officer came out with her registration number as 1192642 and 7 digits instead of 8 as mmsi no – 27104364?

Later on she entered Grand Harbour and berthed at Gun Wharf. One would notice that she had no anchors neither on port bow nor starboard bow.

She left Grand Harbour continuing the voyage to Morocco on Wednesday 5th January at 1605 hrs.
