On Friday 8th April, 2022 the 2011 built sailing ship RAINBOW WARRIOR (III) passed breakwaters at 1319 hrs coming from Heraklion Greece.

Rainbow Warrior (III) is owned by the environmental activist group Greenpeace International. She’s the first purpose built ship since here predecessors RAINBOW WARRIOR (I) and RAINBOW WARRIOR (II) were converted ships.

A $32m (€23m) contract to build the ship was awarded to Fassmer Shipyard, Germany, in July 2009. Funds for RAINBOW WARRIOR (III) construction were sourced from about three million sponsors. The 57.9m-long ship uses wind energy instead of fossil fuels and incorporates green marine technology. Greenpeace uses her in its environmental awareness campaigns and she provides a functional platform for campaigns at sea and in harbours. She can be deployed on campaign operations worldwide in all climatic zones and used for conducting research activities.

The ship has the capacity to carry and launch inflatable boats in tough weather conditions of which she had 4 ribs including 02-12-YV and 55-97-YT.

She also has a helicopter landing facility with workshop astern and the oceanic vessel is equipped with the latest in electronic navigation, sailing and communications equipment. She’s homeported at Amsterdam (NLD Flag).

This was her 3rd visit to Grand Harbour since she was built, first one in December 2014 and in July/August 2016 where she was drydocked at Palumbo Malta Superyachts.

And always calling at Palumbo Facilities.

She left Grand Harbour, Malta on Saturday 9th April, 2022 at 0911 hrs bound to Syracuse, Sicily.
