The first Linea Messina containership to be at Malta wearing full livery was the 2010 built ship JOLLY ROSA which left Palumbo Malta Shipyard, last Saturday 20th January, 2024.

She entered on Thursday 11th January passing breakwaters at 0837 hrs wearing black hull  and straight into Dock 6 of which she was drydocked.

She was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd.  at their Okpo Shipyard,  South Korea as AGROS with yard number 4173 with her keel laid on 9th April, 2010. She was launched 2 months later on 19th June and completed a month later on 29th July, 2010.

A year later, in December 2011 she was sold and renamed as ROSA. She has the capacity of 4,400 TEU’s including 360 reefer ones with double bottom hull with 1 x MAN-B&W 8 8K90MC-C – 2 stroke 8 cylinder 900 x 2.300 diesel engine 36.560 kW manufactured in 2010.

During Q 2 of last year 2023 Ignazio Messina & C which was founded in 1921 and based at Genoa, Italy stated that it is purchasing a brace of midsize boxships to replace two conro vessels that was selling. In fact 3 vessels were sold to US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (MARAD).

During December 2023 JOLLY ROSA started trading as a cellular containership and after her call at Palumbo Malta Shipyard she left Valletta sporting her orange livery like all Linea Messina Ships.

Harbour pilot with 3 local tugs were ordered at 1100 hrs to start her departure on Saturday 20th, starting the move at 1116 hrs.

She passed breakwaters at 1157 hrs bound to Castellon, Spain which is due to arrive this evening.

And awaiting at pilot station, was her sister JOLLY GIADA ready to take her drydock.
