Vessels calling for crew change, provisions, fendering operations, disembarking/embarking personnel etc are positioned 3/5 miles depending on the cargo for conveyance services. Below is an example of a busy morning that happened on Wednesday 24th March 2021 –

The 2013 Romanian built and owned chemical/oil products tanker HISTRIA AMBRA was seen receiving yokohama fenders for ship to ship (sts) operation by the 1979 American built utility vessel JOANNA M.

The 2010 Romanian built chemical/oil products tanker NINA was seen OGH (Outside Grand Harbour) with the 1979 American built offshore supply vessel DILIGENCE.

The 2006 Japanese built crude oil tanker TOKYO SPIRIT was seen receiving yokohama fenders for ship to ship (sts) operation.

Back to 18th October 2015 the above tanker ran aground off Lisbon, Portugal.

The 2003 South Korean built chemical/oil products tanker NAFTILOS AN and the 2010 South Korean built crude oil tanker DELTA KANARIS were seen OGH awaiting conveyance services.

The 2005 South Korean built chemical/oil products tanker ROLLS I was seen awaiting 5 miles OGH to receive yokohama fenders for ship to ship (sts) operation by the 1999 Turkish built utility vessel MARIA-C.

Later in the afternoon the offshore supply vessel DILIGENCE performed a conveyance operation with the jack up oil rig ATWOOD AURORA.

And finally the 229 metre 2017 built bulker BBG JOURNEY was seen heading to a designated bunkering area with SANTA MARIA.
