One of the famous IHC Dredging designed vessels is the 2003 built Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD)  – VOLVOX OLYMPIA for the 1868 founded Royal Van Oord, a Dutch maritime contracting company that specializes in dredging, land reclamation and constructing man made islands.

She was built at Scheepswerf v/d Giessen de Noord as yard number 990 sporting a grey livery with the same name with 97.75 length overall (loa), beam of 19.92 metres and maximum draft (loaded) of 7.19 metres.

TSHD has the full sailing capacity used to maintain navigable waterways, deepening the maritime channels that are threatened to become silted, to construct new land elsewhere or to replace sand eroded by storms or wave action on the beaches. This is made possible by large powerful pumps and engines able to suck sand, clay, silt and gravel.

Her Hopper volume is of  4750 m³ with dredging depth of 32 metres and 1 dredging pipe with 0.9 metres as the suction pipe diameter.

VOLVOX OLYMPIA was represented in Malta by  Mediterranean Trading https://medtradship.com/    which they are our SPONSORS too for a lifetime
