One of the former American owned vessels operating in the Persian Gulf is the 1979 built dredger SUGAR ISLAND that she’s still in service though she’s 44 years old.
She was built in 1979 by Southern Shipbuilding Corporation with yard number 119 as the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) SUGAR ISLAND for the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co, USA and homeported at New York (USA Flag).
Original build for the North American trailer company – Cooperation between Great Lakes and Ballast Nedam Dredging.
As per all images here back to 6th January, 2007 while leaving Grand Harbour, Malta, in 2006 she was reflagged to Majuro (MHL) for her delivery voyage.
And currently she’s flying a Bahrain Flag.
