Valletta Cruise Port plc (formerly VISET Malta plc) is a limited liability company which took over the cruise and ferry terminal operations following an international tender issued by the Government of Malta in 1996. Valletta Cruise Port was awarded the project and the formal agreement was signed on the 23rd of November 2001. As part of the package the Government offer included the lease of all the 48,000 square meters of land and buildings on the land side of the quays for 65 years. The development of the Valletta Waterfront project was carried out over a number of years in 4 Phases ranging from March 2002 to May 2007.

When the road behind Forni Stores was being done, help from the Civil Protection Department was required and a Turntable Ladder (Formely Malta Police Fire Brigade) was used to set up guards to prevent falling rocks from the bastions.
