On the 23rd December 2019, the Malta-Sicily Interconnector suffered extensive damage which resulted in a nationwide powercut. The Interconnector is an important element of the energy mix for the supply of electricity for the Maltese Islands to ensure the security of supply and the economic production of electricity. With immediate action, Enemalta made all necessary repairs arrangements including commissioning the survey vessel POLAR KING to perform the survey of the damage occurred.

Meanwhile on 12th February, 2020 Transport Malta (Ports & Yachting Directorate Department) issued Notice To Mariners No 12 of 2020 (TM/PYD/70/02)

Repairs were completed that some time was lost due to severe weather conditions including a storm and with full co-operation from Enemalta employees, the interconnector was repaired in under three months, half the time it was expected to take.

The Port Logistics Operations Ltd (PLO) 36 metre offshore supply vessel DILIGENCE was also assisting

The 2009 built offshore support vessel ARIADNE entered Valletta berthing at Pinto 1 and 2 wharves and at 1503 hrs she passed breakwaters bound to Offshore Sicily.
