The Italian Shipping Company established in 1992 Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) started a connection of ferry service linking Malta with Palermo. On Saturday 16th January, 2021 at 1515 hrs the 1994 built ropax AF MARINA entered Grand Harbour, Malta for the first time coming from Palermo via Messina Straits.

She was built by Cantieri Navali Visentini at Porto Viro as ro/ro ship TOSCANA for Tirrenia di Navigazione, Italy operating mainly on the routes between Sardinia, Sicily and Campania regions. She was launched on 17th March, 1994 and entered service on 21st June operating on the routes to Sardinia . During 1996 she was rebuilt as ropax with 600 passengers and 300 cars capacity and carrying 1,670 meters of cargo. In November 2012 she was bought by Adria Ferries and renamed AF MARINA.

She’s powered by one engine – 16-cylinder Sulzer ZAV40S capable of delivering 11,520 kW of power and cruising speed of 18.5 knots. Since January 2021 she has been chartered to Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV).

She left harbour at 2033 hrs bound to Genoa, Italy.
