Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) started a connection of ferry service linking Malta with Palermo with first ship calling on Saturday 16th January, 2021 at 1515 hrs – the 1994 built ropax AF MARINA which entered Grand Harbour, Malta for the first time coming from Palermo via Messina Straits.
Within a week we saw the German built ropax GNV CRISTAL twice when she called Grand Harbour, Malta on Friday 29th January, 2021 at 1244 hrs coming from Palermo, Sicily.
Interesting to follow was the Polish built and owned ro/ro vessel CHODZIEZ with Linea Messina on her shipside entering Grand Harbour on Saturday 20th February, 2021. She was built at Gdynia Shipyard at Gdynia in Poland in 1988 as CHODZIEZ until 2008 where she was renamed as DIVIO and in 2013 back to CHODZIEZ one again.
2 calls later were made by the 153.40 metres long ro/ro vessel ELISABETH RUSS with the last one calling for few hours discharging on Friday 5th March, 2021. She was built at the famous JJ Sietas Schiffswerft in Hamburg, Germany as yard number 1186 and was chartered to various shipping lines.
Also on the same day, around an hour later the 2012 built ro/ro vessel SEVERINE entered Grand Harbour, Malta berthing at DWQ 4. She’s not a newcomer to us since she used to be chartered to Tirrenia/Moby Service to Malta. SEVERINE is built in Japan by Kyokuyo Shipbuilding & Iron Works in Shimonoseki. Her last port of call was Cagliari.
She called again on Wednesday 10th March and Friday 12th March.
Then on Monday 8th and Monday 15th March the 2003 Italian built and owned ropax LA SUPREMA called at Grand Harbour, Malta berthing at DWQ 4. She was last in Malta at Marsaxlokk Harbour on 27th February, 2017 with the current GNV Colours.
