Maltese aquaculture produce is almost entirely exported to European and Asian markets. Over 65 percent of annual landings originates from the tuna and dolphin fish fisheries, which contribute about 56 percent in value terms (about US$ 6 million). Blue Fin Tuna (BFT) Season is on the way too.
Here are some of Week 19/20 interesting movements –
Friday 14th May – The 1979 built Libyan flag and owned purse seiner OEA left Grand Harbour from MMH Facilities bound to Marsaxlokk Harbour. She was built in France trading as JEAN MARIE CHRISTIAN until 2005.





Saturday 15th May – The 1971 built Italian stern trawler FILIPPO MARIA called at Grand Harbour berthing at Flagstone Wharf to uplift bunkers at 1147 hrs leaving harbour around 1430 hrs bound to fishing grounds.




Monday 17th May – The 1981 built 22.5 metre MLT flag and owned workboat IRMINIO left AJD Tuna Farm towing BFT cage at 1032 hrs.

At 1238 hrs the 2004 built 23.95 metre MLT flag and owned stern trawler HANNIBAL 1 left AJD Tuna Farm towing BFT cage. She departed Valletta from Dwq 1 around 0615 hrs.





Tuesday 18th May – At 1040 hrs the 1988 built 43 metre MLT flag and owned workboat THOR BEAMER left AJD Tuna Farm towing BFT cage. She departed Valletta from Dwq 1 at 0725 hrs.






At 1749 hrs the 2017 built 23 metre MLT flag and owned stern trawler HOPE left Valletta from Laboratory Wharf South 1.





Around 2000 hrs the 2005 built AJD Tuna Support Vessel AZURE 1 entered Grand Harbour coming from Sete, France with last port as Olbia, Sardinia.



Wednesday 19th May – At 0910 hrs the 2017 built 23 metre MLT flag and owned stern trawler HOPE left Mareblu Tuna Farm towing BFT cage and at 1019 hrs the 1947 built tugboat CMS SEACAT left Mareblu Tuna Farm as well.
Thursday 20th May – At 0725 hrs the Libyan flag workboat NOUR II shifted from Bridge Wharf to Starboard side alongside DWQ 1 for mobilizing.

From 0915 hrs to 1149 hrs the 2002 built fish farm boat GANG PIL LEE was at Grand Harbour transferring nets to NOUR II at Valletta.






At 1452 hrs the LBY flag and owned fishing support boat AL KAPTAN homeported in Derna left Grand Harbour bound to Marsaxlokk Harbour berthing at Elbros Quay.




Friday 21st May – At 1224 hrs the 2008 built ITA flag and owned purse seiner MARIA SANTISSIMA DI COSTANTINOPOLI entered Grand Harbour coming from Salerno, Italy. As always she will be supporting AJD Tuna during the BFT Season.



At 1437 hrs the Mareblu Tuna Farm workboat RICARDO F entered Valletta towing cage parts.




At 1440 hrs the Fish & Fish Ltd Tuna Farm workboat EMMAYA towing a tuna cage from MMH Facilities left Valletta.



At 1511 hrs the LBY flag and owned fishing vessel ALNOGOM ALMODIAA 1 entered Valletta coming from Tripoli, Libya.



From 0751 to 1727 hrs the 1968 built tug LANGUEDOC 7 was berthed at DWQ 1 mobilising for the BFT Season.




At 1742 hrs she started towing a BFT cage that was handed over to her by the AJD Tuna Support Vessel AZURE 1 off Grand Harbour.
