Maltese aquaculture produce is almost entirely exported to European and Asian markets. Over 65 percent of annual landings originates from the tuna and dolphin fish fisheries, which contribute about 56 percent in value terms (about US$ 6 million). Blue Fin Tuna (BFT) Season is on the way too.

Saturday 22nd May – The 1982 built MLT flag and owned fishing support vessel BERENDINA HERMINA left Grand Harbour from Dwq 1 at 0656 hrs.
At 0933 hrs the 1977 built MLT flag and owned stern trawler SALVE REGINA started towing a BFT cage.
At 0957 hrs the fishing support vessel BERENDINA HERMINA left AJD Tuna Farm towing BFT cage.
Sunday 23rd May – Around 10 BFT cages left the Maltese Tuna Farms –
0646 hrs – The 1978 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler ANNA MADRE entered Grand Harbour from Mazara del Vallo, Sicily berthing at Laboratory Wharf South 2 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1507 hrs.
At 1554 hrs she left Mareblu Tuna Farm towing BFT Cage.
0720 hrs – The 1999 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler ANASTASIA RUTA entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1542 hrs.
At 1715 hrs she entered Marsaxlokk Harbour of which at 1729 hrs she left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage and passed Marsaxlokk Harbour breakwaters at 1815 hrs.
0724 hrs – The 2000 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler ELEONORA RUTA entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1755 hrs.
At 1909 hrs she entered Marsaxlokk Harbour of which at 1930 hrs she left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage and passed Marsaxlokk Harbour breakwaters at 2034 hrs.
0959 hrs – The 1947 built tugboat CMS SEACAT was spotted leaving Mareblu Tuna Farm towing a BFT cage.
1003 hrs – The 21 metre MLT flag and owned longliner GRAZIELLA left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage and passed Marsaxlokk Harbour breakwaters at 1034 hrs.
1038 hrs the 1978 built MLT flag and owned stern trawler ORKA III left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage.
1138 hrs – The 2004 built MLT flag and owned stern trawler DEGRE was spotted leaving Mareblu Tuna Farm towing a BFT cage.
1142 hrs – The 19 metre MLT flag and owned longliner LAURA II left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage and passed Marsaxlokk Harbour breakwaters at 1334 hrs.
1146 hrs – The 26 metre ITA flag and owned longliner VITTORIA PRIMA left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage.
1323 hrs – The 34 metre MLT flag and owned stern trawler ROSNIK left Marsaxlokk Fishport towing BFT Cage. She shifted earlier on at 1100 hrs from her berth at Boiler Wharf, Valletta.
2018 hrs – The 28.93 metre long TUN flag and owned wooden stern trawler MOHAMED SALLEM entered Grand Harbour bound to the MMH Facilities berthing alongside the Libyan fishing vessel TAKNES.
Monday 24th May – The 2017 delivered Mareblu Tuna owned 15 metre workboat RICARDO F towed an empty BFT cage from MMH Facilities and left Valletta at 0801 hrs.
Meanwhile two other workboats ONNELLA and YAIZATUN DOS belonging to the same tuna farm left Valletta at 0751 and 0755 hrs.
Tuesday 25th May –
0624 hrs – The 1972 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler BUCEFALO entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1556 hrs.
She entered Marsaxlokk Harbour at 1719 hrs and left fishport towing a cage at 1727 hrs and passed Marsaxlokk Harbour breakwaters at 1807 hrs.
0637 hrs – The 1973 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler ALBERTO CARTOLINO entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1556 hrs. She’s the former DAYTONA PRIMA infact holding the same matricola as MV 309.
She entered Marsaxlokk Harbour at 1748 hrs and left fishport towing a cage at 1848 hrs and passed Marsaxlokk Harbour breakwaters at 1900 hrs.
0709 hrs – The 2000 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler OSIRIDE was spotted towing BFT cage from AJD Tuna Farm off St. Paul’s Bay
0617 hrs – The 2000 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler GIULIA P.G. entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1256 hrs.
0729 hrs – The 2004 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler FRANCESCO BONO was spotted towing 2 BFT cages from AJD Tuna Farm off St. Paul’s Bay.
0740 hrs – The 2000 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler NATALINO entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1319 hrs.
0814 hrs – The 1982 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler ALISEO entered Grand Harbour from Mazara del Vallo, Sicily berthing at Laboratory Wharf South 2 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1150 hrs bound to Mareblu Tuna Farm.
0950 hrs – The 2000 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler DAVIDE INGARGIOLA entered Grand Harbour from Mazara del Vallo, Sicily berthing at Laboratory Wharf South 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1447 hrs bound to AJD Tuna Farm.
1319 hrs – The 28.93 metre long TUN flag and owned wooden stern trawler MOHAMED SALLEM left Grand Harbour bound to Fishing Grounds from the MMH Facilities.
1452 hrs – The 2002 built LBY flag and owned purse seiner LATHRON entered Marsaxlokk Harbour, coming from Tripoli, Libya.
1520 hrs – The 1969 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler SILVIA C entered Grand Harbour from Mazara del Vallo, Sicily berthing at DWQ 1 for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1626 hrs.
1753 hrs – The 1968 built LBY flag and owned fishing support vessel NOUR II left Valletta bound to AJD Tuna Farm.
1935 hrs – The 2003 built EGY flag and owned purse seiner SAFINAT NOOH entered Grand Harbour from Abu Qir, Egypt berthing at Laboratory Wharf South 2.
2225 hrs – The 1987 built LBY flag and owned purse seiner EL HADER 2 left Marsaxlokk Harbour bound to fishing grounds.
2226 hrs – The 1975 built LBY flag and owned purse seiner AL HARES 2 left Marsaxlokk Harbour bound to fishing grounds.
2232 hrs – The 2003 built MLT flag and owned fisheries support vessel HISPANIA UNO left Marsaxlokk Harbour bound to fishing grounds.
2232 hrs – The 1979 built LBY flag and owned purse seiner OEA left Marsaxlokk Harbour bound to fishing grounds.
2234 hrs – The 1977 built LBY flag and owned purse seiner NAWASI ALKIR 1 left Marsaxlokk Harbour bound to fishing grounds.
2235 hrs – The 2019 converted trawler MOHAMED USAMA now trading as the fisheries support vessel LBY flag and owned AL KAPTAN left Marsaxlokk Harbour bound to fishing grounds.
Wednesday 26th May –
0736 hrs – The 1993 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler GEMMA PRIMA entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily berthing at Bridge Wharf for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1015 hrs.
0741 hrs – The 1973 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler GHIBLI PRIMO entered Grand Harbour from Mazara del Vallo, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1229 hrs bound to Mareblu Tuna Farm.
0748 hrs – The 2000 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler VINCENZO RUTA entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1009 hrs.
0751 hrs – The 1990 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler ALESSANDRO entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1008 hrs. She’s the former SALVATORE C that was here back to BFT Season 2017.
0907 hrs – The 1973 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler FAMAVIA entered Marsaxlokk Harbour from Licata, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Marsaxlokk at 1215 hrs bound to Valletta entering at 1344 hrs and left again at 1449 hrs.
0911 hrs – The 1996 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler NUOVO LORENZO entered Marsaxlokk Harbour from Licata, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Marsaxlokk at 1119 hrs bound to Valletta entering at 1225 hrs and left again at 1424 hrs.
1210 hrs – The 23.24 metre ITA flag and owned longliner VITTORIA PRIMA entered Grand Harbour from Marsaxlokk Harbour of which she left at 1105 hrs and left again to Marsaxlokk Harbour at 1422 hrs.
1216 hrs – The 26.18 metre ITA flag and owned stern trawler CALLORE entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1436 hrs.
1225 hrs – The 1996 built ITA flag and owned stern trawler NUOVO LORENZO entered Grand Harbour from Licata, Sicily for mobilising to tow a cage. She left Valletta at 1436 hrs.
1945 hrs – The 2003 built EGY flag and owned purse seiner SAFINAT NOOH entered Grand Harbour from sea trials and berthed at Church Wharf.
2223 hrs – The 1989 built LBY flag and owned fishing support vessel ARWA entered Grand Harbour from Tripoli, Libya for customs clearance.
2224 hrs – The 2014 built LBY flag and owned fishing vessel REMAS entered Grand Harbour from Tripoli, Libya for customs clearance. Interesting to see that she’s registered with ICCAT (AT000LBY00106) as REMAS but on AIS her name is showing as RIMAS.
2226 hrs – The 2018 built LBY flag and owned fishing vessel ZARGA entered Grand Harbour from Tripoli, Libya for customs clearance.
Thursday 27th May –
0001 hrs – The LBY flag vessel REMAS left Grand Harbour bound to Marsaxlokk Harbour entering at 0053 hrs.
0001 hrs – The LBY flag vessel ZARGA left Grand Harbour bound to Marsaxlokk Harbour entering at 0120 hrs.
0002 hrs – The LBY flag vessel ARWA left Grand Harbour bound to Marsaxlokk Harbour entering at 0119 hrs.
0818 hrs – The 26.18 metre ITA flag and owned stern trawler CALLORE left Marsaxlokk Harbour towing a cage after she was berthed at Elbros Quay.
0843 hrs – The 2008 built ITA flag and owned purse seiner MARIA SANTISSIMA DI COSTANTINOPOLI shifted from DWQ 1 to Laboratory Wharf South 1.
1043 hrs – The 2020 built DZA flag and owned purse seiner SERAJ entered Marsaxlokk Harbour, coming from Mostaganem, Algeria berthing at Elbros Quay.
1043 hrs – The 2016 built DZA flag and owned purse seiner BORHANE I entered Marsaxlokk Harbour, coming from Mostaganem, Algeria berthing at Elbros Quay.
1656 hrs – The 1991 Damen built LBY flag and owned CYRENE entered Grand Harbour coming from Tripoli for customs clearance. Later she shifted to MMH Facilities.
1657 hrs – The 1987 built LBY flag and owned MORINA entered Grand Harbour coming from Tripoli for customs clearance. Later she shifted to MMH Facilities.
1720 hrs – The 2019 converted trawler SHAHAD ALBIHAR now trading as the fisheries support vessel LBY flag and owned TAKNES left MMH Facilities for sea trials of which she entered back at 1838 hrs.
1448 hrs – The 1987 built CMN flag fish carrier FISH FRY 5 entered Grand Harbour for customs clearance but received instructions from Valletta VTS that her local agent made the customs clearance for her arrival and she turned and headed to AJD Facilities at St. Paul’s Bay.
1632 hrs – The 2008 built ITA flag and owned fisheries support vessel MARIA SANTISSIMA DI COSTANTINOPOLI entered Valletta from fishing grounds and left again at 2110 hrs.
1804 hrs – The 2019 converted trawler SHAHAD ALBIHAR now trading as the fisheries support vessel LBY flag and owned TAKNES left Grand Harbour from MMH Facilities bound to Marsaxlokk Harbour berthing at Elbros Quay.
Saturday 29th May –
1827 hrs – The 2004 built MLT flag and owned stern trawler DEGRE entered Grand Harbour from fishing grounds.
