One of the Italian purse seiner that used to be seen during the Blue Fin Tuna (BFT) Season was the 1974 built S.RAFFAELE which on radio vhf she was called as SAN RAFFAELE.

She was built at Cantieri Navali Codecasa at Viareggio with yard number F23 as S.RAFFAELE for Cooperativa S. Michele based at Cetara, Italy with official number as 571.

Her IMO number was 7351123 while her radio callsign was INJU with 36.36 metres as loa and 7.55 metres beam armed with 3 x Viscovo cranes and 2 skiffs.

All photographs here are whilst entering Valletta 22 years ago – 18th May 2001.

In 2005 she was seen different, with a rebuilt and new spacious wheelhouse with more accommodation and 3 skiffs. She was still homeported at Salerno with fishing matricola as SA 56.
