On Friday 16th January, 2015 the 228,000 deadweight (dwt) floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) KUITO being towed from Angola towards Aliaga, Turkey for breakers was photographed from the air by MALTA SHIP PHOTOS around 40 nautical miles North of Malta.
She was built in the United States of America by Seatrain Shipbuilding Corp at Brooklyn as the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) BAY RIDGE in 1979 of which she was the fourth ship from her class with yard number as 103 for United States Trust Co of New York, USA. Her length overall was 334.9 metres with 43.7 metres as beam. In 1997 she was renamed as PROSTOR II and was used in the Rang Dong Oilfield in Vietnam for storage before being acquired by SBM who converted her as a FPSO at Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore in 1999.
She was towed by the 2008 built anchor handling tug URANUS which was the last long tow since she was sold in February, 2015.
She arrived at Aliaga,Turkey dropping anchors on Wednesday 4th February and beached on Friday 6th February.
