One of the former naval vessels that was given a second life, converted for research and survey work OCEAN ENDEAVOUR is the former Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service (RMAS) Sal Class Mooring & Salvage Vessel RMAS SALMASTER A 186.
She was built in Aberdeen, Scotland by Hall, Russell & Company, with yard no 994 and launched on 12th November 1985 as RMAS SALMASTER. With 77.1 metres length overall (loa),beam of 14.9 metres and 3.8 metres draught, she was powered by two Ruston & Hornsby diesels, totalling 4,000 brake horsepower (3,000 kW), driving two screw propellers and giving a service speed of 15 knots.
She was sold in 2001 to the British marine services and survey company Gardline Limited of Great Yarmouth, converted for research and survey work, and renamed as OCEAN ENDEAVOUR .
Her maiden call to Malta goes back to November 2006 , five years after she was bought and berthed at St. Angelo Wharf, part of Grand Harbour Marina (GHM) at Dockyard Creek.
As from December 2023, she is operated world-wide by Gardline Marine Sciences and still trading.
