On Friday 25th May, 2007 the 2001 built semi submersible barge FAIRMOUNT FJELL entered Grand Harbour, Malta towed by the 2006 built anchor handling tug MICKLYN MAGNITOR which was due to be renamed BOA MAGNITOR.

In August 2005, Fairmount Heavy Transport acquired the FAIRMOUNT FJORD and FAIRMOUNT FJELL as barges from Norway’s BOA Offshore for $45m. Conversion contract of the barges was signed in Malta during March 2006.

She was built at Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China with yard number 98-0710 as the 146.30 metre deck cargo barge BOABARGE 20 trading until October 2005 before being renamed to FAIRMOUNT FJELL for Fairmount Heavy Transport. Upon her arrival she was berthed at Shipwrights Wharf.

On Wednesday 10th October, 2007 she shifted from Shipwrights Wharf to Dock 7 for conversion works by 3 Tug Malta tugs – FELICA, LIENI and SEA SALVOR helped by the two small Malta Shipyards tugs FILFLA and KEMMUNA.

She followed the first converted vessel FAIRMOUNT FJORD and unfortunately at the time of writing she’s laid up due to the Pandemic Disease COVID-19.

Vessel logistics etc was all managed by Medsea Shipping Agency – http://www.medsea.com.mt
