Sea Malta Company Limited was the Maltese National Shipping Line. Established on 10th November 1973 during the tenure of the Labour Government led by Dominic Mintoff, which had the majority of the shares in the new company. The quest of this company was to provide maritime services company as well as to the need of the nation in general, and to assist the Maltese industry.
One of the first 3 ships bought by SEA MALTA was the 1950 built GUDJA. She was built by Bremer Vulkan at Vegesack in Germany as the ARGO trading for Argo Reederei Richard Adler & Sohne, Bremen, Germany until 1964, then sold to a Swedish owned company based at Stockholm and renamed MONITA trading until 1972 when she was purchased by the Maltese National Lines and renamed as MUNITA ( Coin in Maltese Language). In 1974 she was purchased by Sea Malta and renamed her as GUDJA ( a Maltese village ). Her GRT was 1,594 tons while her deadweight (dwt) was 2,947 tons.
In 1976 she was laid up at Kalkara Creek together with the 2 other ships MARSA built in 1947 and MDINA built in 1946.
She was broken up at Augusta, Sicily by A. Tringali during September 1980.
