On Saturday 16th March 1996 the 1974 built SD 14 cargo ship VRISSI collided with the 1982 built BREITENBURG in good conditions, close to Cap Bon, near Tunis, Tunisia.

BREITENBURG suffered extensive bow damage and made it to Grand Harbour for repairs at Malta Drydocks (MDD) seen below here in April 1996.

VRISSI in disabled condition had to be towed to MDD for drydocking & repairs. She was built in the UK at Austin & Pickergill (A&P) shipyard in Sunderland as Hull no 890 as the ATHANASSIA for Verde Shipping Co. Ltd. (‘Verde’), of Piraeus, Greece. In 1985, still owned by Verde, the vessel was renamed LESVOS. In 1986 she was sold again & renamed VRISSI.
