On Saturday 8th February, 2025 the 2009 built chemical/oil products tanker SILENDI lost port side anchor while she was anchored at the waiting area and few hours later she was drifting within territorial waters (wtw) sheltering from the strong SE winds.
In this case the Maritime Authority here as Transport Malta (TM) must be provided with Statement of Facts (SOF) submitted by the Master and it is important to highlight the position of the lost anchor and chain in Latitude (Lat) and Longitude (Long)
Meantime, the vessel has to make the necessary arrangements when the weather permits to engage a service provider to make all efforts for the recovery of anchor and chain from within waiting area with all costs to be covered by the tanker SILENDI.
Should the vessel’s anchor and chain could not be recovered, vessel to be held responsible for any future third party claims related to the lost anchor and chain.
Furthermore, prior to sailing from Malta, Master is to obtain a no objection/authorisation from respective Class and Flag Administration that vessel is cleared to sail with one anchor or otherwise.
10 days later on Tuesday 18th February, 2025 Sammut Marine Salvage/mooring vessel MOORSMAN retrieved the lost anchor with chain and was towed to position and vice versa to Grand Harbour by the workboat GOLD FINDER.
