The latest cruise ship for the German based Phoenix Reisen is the AMERA that made a maiden call to Valletta, Malta berthing at Pinto 1 and 2 wharves at the Valletta Cruise Port on Wednesday 13th November, 2019.
AMERA was launched in 1988 as ROYAL VIKING SUN for the Royal Viking Line of which was also chartered to Cunard and was renamed SEABOURN SUN in 1999 when Seabourn Cruise Line acquired the ship. During 2002, Seabourn wished to concentrate on smaller vessels and transferred the ship to Holland America Line another division of the Carnival Corporation which was renamed as PRINSENDAM.
During summer 2018, Holland America Line announced that it had sold PRINSENDAM to Phoenix Reisen. However, the ship was chartered back to HAL, and operated scheduled cruises until 1 July 2019. Her last port call as PRINSENDAM was on 1st July 2019 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. On 2nd July 2019 she entered Dock 11 at Blohm+Voss in Hamburg for conversion and left the dock on 11th August 2019. On 12th August 2019 she left Hamburg for Bremerhaven for her first cruise on 16 August 2019 with Phoenix Reisen as the AMERA.
