On Thursday 10th September, 2020 the 2017 built expedition cruise ship WORLD EXPLORER entered Grand Harbour, Malta during her maiden call at 1438 hrs for first fly-cruise embarkation operation in the Mediterranean sea.
She was built in Portugal by West Sea Estaleiros Navals LDA as yard number CO 10 and entered service in 2019 with Portuguese Cruise Company – MYSTIC CRUISE dedicated to operating expeditionary cruise programs in the Antarctic and other remote locations.
Upon her arrival she berthed at Pinto 4 and 5 wharves at Valletta Cruise Port marking the first cruise ship in 7 months for Mifsud Brothers Ltd due to COVID-19 infact lots of safety and health protocols were involved.
Her passenger capacity is 176 while she has 4 Passenger Decks. She has 2 Rolls Royce/Bergen Hybrid Diesel Electric Engines 8 cylinder , 4,500kW each and a Bergen C25:33L6P auxiliary dual generator. These connect to a Low Voltage AFE “SAVeCUBE” Power Electric System which allows the engines to operate at variable speeds maximising their efficiency for the required power with two CPP propellers integrated with two flap rudders, also steering gears and tunnel thrusters with cruising speed of 16 knots.
