On Wednesday 23rd November, 2022 the flag officer in charge of the Nigerian western naval command rear admiral Yaqub Wambai has received the Italian navy ship ITS COMANDANTE BORSINI P 491 during her port call to Apapa area of Lagos state, led by the ambassador of Italy to Nigeria Stefano De Leo.

The ambassador of Italy said the port call of the naval ship was part of the campaign to strengthen the bilateral relations with Nigeria based on friendship and partnership.

He further added that Italy would not relent in it’s the campaign to combat piracy and other maritime crime thereby bringing normalcy in the Gulf of Guinea.

Meanwhile, rear admiral Yaqub Wambai said the international relations with man and machine had so far checkmate the scale of infractions in the Nigerian water ways.

This is not the first time that ITS COMANDANTE BORSINI P 491 that was in the area. Back to early 2014 she was in Nigeria for the centenary celebration together with the aircraft carrier ITS CAVOUR C 550; FREMM Class frigate ITS CARLO BERGAMINI F 590 and Replenishment Ship ITS ETNA A 5326.
