The Philippine Navy (PN) has expressed its interest to acquire the newly-decommissioned Cyclone-class patrol vessels of the United States (US) Navy. At present, the PN has one Cyclone-class patrol vessel in its service, the BRP GENERAL MARIANO ALVAREZ PS-38, formerly USS CYCLONE PC 1, which was transferred to the PN in March 2004.

The US Navy Cyclone class patrol ships are a class of 14 coastal patrol boats originally 16 but 2 were cancelled. With 55 metres long , 7.6metres beam and maximum draft of 2.3 metres they were powered by 4 Paxman Diesel Engines with maximum speed of 35 knots and they have a range of between 2,000 to 2,500 nautical miles.

Both images are of USS TEMPEST PC 2 entering Grand Harbour, Malta back to 3rd April,2001.
