Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) is a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) standing maritime immediate reaction force which consists of four to six destroyers and frigates. Its role is to provide NATO with an immediate operational response capability.
From Saturday 22nd February to Monday 24th February SNMG 2 units consisting of 6 naval ships was at Catania Port berthing at 4 wharves –
The Turkish Navy Barbaros Class Frigate TCG SALIHREIS F 246 was berthed starboard side alongside the Canadian Frigate at Banchina 13 port side alongside seen below berthed on Sunday 23rd February and leaving harbour on Monday 24th February at 0641 hrs.
The Royal Canadian Navy Halifax Class Frigate HMCS FREDERICTON FFH 337 was berthed at Banchina 13 starboard side alongside with 1 Cyclone Sikorsky CH-148 Military Helicopter Embarked seen below leaving harbour on Monday 24th February at 0748 hrs.
The Hellenic Navy Papanikolis Class (Type 214) Submarine HS KATSONIS S 123 was berthed at Banchina 12 port side alongside and seen below is leaving harbour on Monday 24th February at 0827 hrs.
The Spanish Navy Alvaro de Bazan Class Frigate ESPS CRISTOBAL COLON F 105 was berthed at Banchina 25 starboard side alongside Hellenic Navy Frigate HS AEGEAN F 460 and seen below is leaving harbour on Monday 24th February at 0944 hrs. She had 1 x Sikorsky S 70 Helicopter embarked.











On completion the Hellenic Navy Frigate HS AEGEAN F 460 which was berthed starboard side alongside Banchina 25 seen below left harbour on Monday 24th February at 1017 hrs. She had 1 x Sikorsky S 70 Helicopter embarked.














And the last movement was the Flagship of the Squadron – Italian Navy Bergamini Class Frigate ITS CARABINIERE F 593 that was berthed starboard side alongside Banchina 10 and 11. She had 1 x SH-90 A Helicopter embarked with serial as MM81609 and coded 3-34. She left Catania on Monday 24th February at 1050 hrs.
