One of the 6th submarine Type 212 Class of the German Navy FGS U35 with pennant number as S 185 paid a diplomatic visit at Grand Harbour, Malta on Thursday 16th September of which she passed breakwaters at 0902 hrs.
Berthing Preparations commenced on Wednesday 15th September using for the first time 2 Pneumatic Floating Submarine fenders as per below images –
Tugs PAWLINA together with ST.ELMO were the tugs involved in tug assistance.
FGS U 35 is the fifth submarine and she was laid down in August, 2007 by Howaldstwerke (HDW) at Kiel in Germany. She was launched during November, 2011 and commissioned on 23rd March, 2015. She’s 56 metres long with 7 metres beam and draft of 6 metres.
Upon completion oil pollution boom was secured around the submarine by Cassar Group Personnel at Pinto 4 Wharf, part of Valletta Cruise Port.
She left Grand Harbour on Sunday 19th September, 2021 assisted by tugs SENGLEA and WENZINA.
Unfortunately both on her entry and departure there was NO Law Enforcement Craft taking care of security breaching.
