On Monday 12th July,1999 the 16th Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer (Flight I Class) USS RAMAGE with pennant number DDG 61 entered Grand Harbour, Malta assisted by 2 tugs – KATRIN & LIENI berthing starboard side alongside at Pinto 4 & 5 wharves part of VISET ( now Valletta Cruise Port).

The ship is named for Vice Admiral Lawson P. Ramage, a notable submarine commander and Medal of Honor recipient in World War II. She was laid down on 4th January, 1993 at the Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, launched on 11th February 1994, sponsored by Barbara Ramage (wife of the admiral), and commissioned on 22nd July 1995.

On 24th May 1999, as a part of the Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group, USS RAMAGE departed on her second deployment to the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas. While deployed overseas, she visited eight countries and made 15 port visits including Malta. 

She left Grand Harbour on Friday 16th July assisted by 2 tugs – LIENI & VITORIN (Both tugs are no longer in service with TugMalta like KATRIN)
