The self-propelled dynamically positioned crane vessel SAIPEM 3000 is operated by the largest Italian offshore service provider Saipem , a former subsidiary of the energy company Eni . Built in 1984 by the Japanese shipyard Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as SNIMOS KING , she’s homeported at Nassau with a Bahamas flag. (BHS Flag).

SAIPEM S.p.A. (Società Anonima Italiana Perforazioni E Montaggi) is an Italian multinational oilfield services company and one of the largest in the world. Until 2016 it was a subsidiary of Italian oil and gas supermajor Eni, which still retains approximately 30% of Saipem’s shares.

During 2003 she was converted from the former MAXITA into a heavy lift Crane Vessel with a fully revolving Clyde 76 Model crane with the following lifting capacities:

Main Hook: 2,400 short tons (approximately 2,177 metric tons) at a radius of 39.6 meters

Auxiliary Hook: 600 short tons (approximately 544 metric tons) at 43 meters

Whip Hook: 75 short tons (approximately 68 metric tons) at 83 meters

For subsea operations, the auxiliary hook can handle:

544 tons at 290 meters below the boom hinge

148 tons at 1,010 meters below the boom hinge

49 tons at 2,090 meters below the boom hinge

Additionally, the vessel is fitted with an Active Heave Compensated (AHC) winch capable of:

350 tons in single mode

700 tons in double fall mode

Operating at water depths up to 2,000 meters

SAIPEM 3000 was seen at least 3 times berthed at Medserv Base back to 2012, 2015 and 2020.

And last November she passed by Malta of which we issued an article too – Passer By – Offshore Heavy Lift Vessel SAIPEM 3000 – 13.11.2024 – Malta Ship Photos & Action Photos
