One of the ships that were built in UK and converted into another role was the general cargo ship ELIZABETH BOWATER built by the Caledon Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd in Dundee, Scotland in June 1958.

She was the first of the motor ships on the Bowater Steamship Co Ltd, London fleet and was was powered by a 6 cylinder SD60 Sulzer engine producing 2700bhp and a speed of 12knots, designed to carry newsprint.

In 1972 she was converted into a drilling ship and renamed as WIMPEY SEALAB for Wimpey Marine Ltd, GBR in yellow hull completing her commissioning trials in a dynamic positioning mode of operation in November 1974. In 1980 she was sold and renamed as PHOLAS, part of Coe Metcalf Shipping Ltd fleet that had the famous converted drillship WHITETHORN that used to come to Malta including repairs at Cassar Ship Repair Yard (CSRY) as a British Research/Soils Sampling Ship wearing red hull.

With a length overall (loa) of 99.11 metres and a beam of 15.24 metres she was renamed as NORSKALD in 1995 by DSND Offshore AS, Norway and was seen at Malta, 3 years later.

During March, 2000 she was laid up with overdue surveys and in 2001 she was sold for $1.1 million to Fugro Engineers BV, under Bahamas flag (BHS Flag).

A year later she was sold to Smedegaarden AS, Denmark and demolition commenced in Esbjerg with Disposal Data as BU Esbjerg 12.11.02 & Liepaja 5.03
