Vantage Drilling International has entered into an agreement with Seadrill Partners which will see Vantage will provide management , operating and marketing services to Seadrill Partners. The agreement relates to drill ships WEST CAPELLA and WEST POLARIS and the semi-submersible drilling rigs (ssdr) WEST LEO and WEST SIRIUS.
Seadrill Partners is currently being reorganised after filing for chapter 11 in December 2020. The agreement was approved by the bankruptcy court on last Thursday 18th March, 2021. Seadrill was incorporated as a Bermuda company on May 10, 2005 by John Fredriksen, a Norwegian born shipping tycoon, and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in November 2005. In July 2005, the company acquired jack up rigs from Odfjell Drilling. Apart other news in May 2010 the company outbid Ensco (now Valaris plc) for Scorpion Offshore, valuing the company at $567 million. In May 2013 the company sold the last tender rigs SEADRILL T15 and SEADRILL T 16 together with the ssdr WEST VENCEDOR to Seadrill Partners LLC and a month later it acquired a majority interest in Sevan Drilling.
The above agreement for managing 4 units were subject to the approval of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and they have now been approved. In related news, Seadrill Ltd, which owns 35 per cent of Seadrill Partners, has recently confirmed it is laying off 162 offshore workers in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico as its drill ship WEST NEPTUNE will be out of work soon.
